Salmon Fishing.

My brother, a friend and I went on a weekend fly fishing trip up to Milwaukee on October 15th-17th.  We fished the Milwaukee River for the fall salmon run.

David from Chicago Troutbum tied us some awesome patterns.  Definitely check out his extensive website if you have not already.

Our first stop on Saturday morning was Estabrook Park right at daybreak.  We fished eggs and streamers for about an hour but with no luck.  It appeared that nobody was catching fish at that spot.

Our next stop was Kletzsch Park.  During our two day trip we had the most success here using chartreuse and orange colored egg patterns.

After an awesome lunch (and some killer Bloody Mary’s!) at the Silver Spring House, we decided to get away from some of the people fishing at Kletzsch Park and fish at Kern Park.  I really love how open and wide the river is here.

Circle of life.

We went back to Kletzsch Park and fished until dark.

Saturday night’s dinner was at Zaffiro’s Pizza.  A Milwaukee must!

On Sunday morning Todd drove up to Green Bay to go to the Packers game and Stefan and I fished at Kletzsch Park for a few hours before the long drive back to Chicago.  Getting up super early and eating McDonald’s for breakfast definitely paid off:
